Director Heo Ga-young’s short film First Summer, which won first place in the Cannes Film Festival’s La Cinef section-the first Korean film ever to do so-opened exclusively at over 50 Megabox locations nationwide on the 6th.

Selected from 2,679 entries, with only 16 invited to this year’s La Cinef, the 31-minute film is screening for an admission fee of 3,000 won.
The story follows Young-soon, who must choose between attending her granddaughter’s wedding or the 49th-day memorial for her boyfriend, exploring her journey to reclaim herself not as an elderly woman but as a woman in her own right.
Viewers have praised it as “a detailed depiction of an elderly woman’s psychology” and “a short yet powerful film.”
On August 9–10, Megabox will offer a “Goods Package Screening,” gifting attendees a set called “Young-soon’s Record,” which includes a storyboard book, postcard, and sticker.
